Object Oriented Programming Applied to the Development of Scientific Software

This paper describes the ongoing e ort by the author to the develop a highly advanced environment for implementing nite element algorithms. At this point the combined PZ, OOPAR and TMatrix environments implement, in a single program : hp- adaptivity in one and two dimensions simultaneously, fluid-structure interaction, substructuring and parallelism applied to a variety of di erential equations. The structure for three dimensional hp adaptivity is built in but not implemented yet. The evironment OOPAR for parallel computing allows to parallelize computations for shared and distributed memory parallel computers without code modi cation.
